Step 3 of 6
Improve your cash flow
Positive cash flow gives you room to save, build your emergency fund and invest. There are only two ways to improve it: spend less or earn more. Start with spending, because you can change it today.
Spend less
- List every expense from last month, then mark each one as a need or a want.
- Cut or pause one want. Skipping a ₱150 milk tea four times a week frees up about ₱2,400 a month.
- Cancel subscriptions you don't use. Two forgotten ₱149 streaming apps cost ₱3,576 a year.
- Compare your bills. A cheaper mobile plan or a shared internet plan can save ₱300 to ₱1,000 a month.
- Plan your meals and pack lunch a few days a week instead of ordering delivery.
Earn more
- Ask about a raise or extra hours once you've shown your value at work.
- Turn a skill into a side hustle, like tutoring, freelancing, baking or reselling.
- Sell things you no longer use on Facebook Marketplace or Carousell.
- What will you cut, and how much does it free up each month?
